L-Carnitine 500 mg – Bioavailability Study

Bioavailability Study

L-Carnitine is a non-essential amino acid used to maintain overall good health by facilitating the transfer of fatty acid groups into the mitochondrial membrane for cellular energy production.

Three healthy adult volunteers, 22 to 55 years old, participated in a clinical trial to study the bioavailability of L-Carnitine 500 mg, a dietary supplement from NOW® (# 0072). Total serum carnitine was measured at baseline, and again at 1, 3, and 6 hours following oral administration of 2 capsules providing 1 gram of L-Carnitine from carnitine tartrate.

Results

Average serum carnitine increased gradually over the course of the study, beginning with the 1–hour measurement, which was 13% above the baseline level. Six hours after supplementation, average carnitine level reached 55% above the baseline concentration. The study confirms the exceptional bioavailability of dietary supplement L-Carnitine by NOW®.

This study supports the exceptional bioavailability of NOW® L-Carnitine 500 mg.
