Taurine 1000 mg – Pharmacokinetic (pK) Study
Bioavailability Study
Taurine is a conditionally essential amino acid that functions by stabilizing cell membranes, aiding the transport of electrolytes, and helping to generate and regulate nerve impulses. Three healthy adult volunteers aged 30 to 51 years participated in a clinical trial to study the bioavailability of Taurine 1000 mg, a dietary supplement from NOW® (item # 0142). Plasma taurine was measured at baseline, and again at 1, 2 and 3 hours following oral administration of one capsule providing 1 gram of taurine.
Results
Average plasma taurine peaked one hour after ingestion, reaching 417 % over the baseline concentration. Average taurine remained 145 % over the baseline level three hours post-supplementation. The study confirms the exceptional bioavailability of NOW® Taurine 1,000 mg.
