L-glutamine is a conditionally essential amino acid that supports muscle tissue and intestinal mucosa, and helps to maintain positive nitrogen balance.

Three healthy adult volunteers 28 to 60 years old participated in a clinical trial to study the bioavailability of L-Glutamine 1,000 mg, a dietary supplement from NOW^® (# 0094). Total serum glutamine was measured at baseline, and 30 minutes, 1 hour, and 3 hours following oral administration of five capsules providing 5 grams of glutamine.

Results

Average serum glutamine peaked one hour after supplementation, reaching 33 % above the baseline level, and returned to the baseline three hours post-supplementation. The study confirms the exceptional bioavailability of NOW^® L-Glutamine 1,000 mg.
