Oregano Oil FAQs
Where is your oregano oil sourced from?
NOW® Essential Oils Pure Oregano Oil is derived from the herb Origanum vulgare, which is grown in the eastern Mediterranean region, predominantly in Turkey. It contains a minimum of 55% carvacrol, one of the active components found naturally in oregano, and is derived from a variety known commonly as “wild oregano.” Our oregano oil (also known as oil of oregano) is non-GMO and 100% steam distilled without the use of chemicals
Do you test your oregano oil?
Yes, NOW’s in-house laboratories are home to some of the most advanced analytical instrumentation currently available, including gas chromatography (GC) and infrared spectrometry (IR). Our chemists use these instruments to analyze our oregano oil for the purpose of verifying identity, purity, and safety.
Should oregano oil be diluted before use?
Because pure oregano oil is highly concentrated, it should not be used undiluted unless it’s being used solely for diffusion. Even then, please exercise caution. Although this is a natural product, it is very concentrated.
We recommend obtaining advice from a professional aromatherapist, or utilizing a recipe from a reputable book, when using pure essential oils for any purpose.
As a general rule, it is best to dilute essential oils in a carrier oil such as olive, almond, jojoba or other food grade carrier oils before using, based on recommendations from an expert source. NOW does not recommend using essential oils for any purpose other than diffusion.
