NOW Receives Earth Flags Recognizing Dedication to the Environment
NOW has been presented with Earth Flags from the DuPage County Board and SCARCE (School and Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education) in recognition of dedication to environmentally sustainable practices for its two facilities in Illinois.
The Earth Flags were presented to the Knollwood Corporate Headquarters and the Roselle Distribution Center. NOW’s Bloomingdale manufacturing facility was presented the Earth Flag ten years ago because of its commitment to recycling, sustainability, and community involvement with projects and practices, and has flown the flag proudly ever since. Earth flags, spun from recycled plastic bottles, show a pristine planet Earth centered on a blue field representing the universe.
To achieve the Earth Flag, facilities need to be committed to sustainability projects. At NOW, this included training employees on the topic, completing a green audit, installing LED lights and motion presence light detectors, conducting an energy audit, participating in events that benefit the environment, using natural light and green cleaning products when possible, using post-consumer content paper products, planting gardens, implementing a comprehensive recycling program, and providing charging stations for electric vehicles and parking for car-pool/energy efficient vehicles.
“NOW and the Richard family have been proud sponsors of SCARCE for several years,” said Reginald Alston, NOW’s Sustainability Manager. “Our thanks to each member of the NOW staff for showing dedication to protecting the environment and helping NOW continue its commitment to recycling, sustainability, and community involvement.”
